    Off to China Again (again)

    2011 - 01.26

    Finally I get my Visa!

For the third time (and second in the last four months) I’m headed to the Middle Kingdom. Instead of studying or just playing around, this time I’m going with the promise of employment. I have an offer from the Blue Ocean Network in Beijing to host a show. BON is owned by “American Venture Capitalists,” I’m told.  You can’t see it in China because it’s not state owned and thus isn’t allowed on local cable systems. BON is available in some markets in the US, like Time Warner in NYC.

That’s my “Business Visa” there. It is legit. I’m using my freelance business to take me to China in an official capacity.

For the next two weeks I’ll be figuring out exactly how to move out the country. Whoa, I’m moving out of the county. This is heavy stuff. Woo hoo! I can’t wait!

Yes, Dispence has been pretty lame lately. But don’t worry. It’ll be back running at full steam once I arrive in Beijing. Just wait till I report on apartment hunting.

    iPad wa?

    2010 - 06.02

I’m in an Apple store in downtown Portland checking out the new Apple iPad. First I checked out my own website and then I thought why not just do a blog post! So far it’s not that bad. Although I find it a little reaching to get my thumbs across the keyboard holding it in portrait here.

I’d take a photo but there’s no camera!

I can’t choose the category. But I do notice it is auto saving just like on a desktop. Wait, just figured out I can choose a category in my word press software here. Looks like everything is functional, pretty cool. But really, it just seems like an expensive toy. If I could get photos from my camera on here then upload them, then we’d be talking about a real useful device.

    Rally Time

    2009 - 05.19

Saturday we headed to Hood River to check out a rally race. The Oregon Trail Rally is one of ten stops in the Rally America series. There were a bunch of cool Subarus. The WRX and STi were the most common but there were some older models, too.

Before heading to the designated spectator area, we checked out the cars on display at the Hood River County Fairgrounds. This was a great opportunity to see the cars all clean and buffed out.

Below is Travis Pastrana’s Subaru WRX STi. He won the weekend and is in first place in the Championship standings.

After checking out the cars, we headed up Fir Mountain RD to watch the racing. After waiting for about two and a half hours, the drivers came by.

Pastrana came first.  The racers were spaced at two minute intervals because the the dust. (more…)
